Space Force Seal Ceremony

The Montana Veterans Memorial Association conducted a ceremony at the Montana Veterans Memorial honoring the United States Space Force on June 27, 2023. During the ceremony, Space Force Guardians assigned to Malmstrom Air Force Base affixed the seal of the nation's newest service to the wall of the memorial. Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Bill Woolf, founder of the United States Space Force Association, served as the keynote speaker during the event. U.S. Space Force Maj. Jared Myers also provided his remarks on serving as commander of Detachment 1 of the 22nd Space Operations Squadron at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

Electric City Currents ~ Great Falls Theatre Company presents ”Oklahoma!”

Matt Donnelly is joined in studio by representatives of the Great Falls Theatre Company to discuss their debut performance of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical "Oklahoma!" Enjoy lots of great acting and singing with catchy tunes like "The Farmer and the Cowman," "The Surrey With the Fringe on Top," and even the title song.

Graig and Monti Gilham join host Thomas Risberg for a fascinating discussion about their non-profit CHOICE, Connecting Higher Opportunities in Community Endeavors, and their upcoming Summer Shootout basketball tournament and fundraiser, July 1st in Cascade. Graig and Monti also tell their personal stories, discussing bullying, addiction, relationship struggles, the importance of sports in forming character and much more. Their story is one of hope and redemption, so make sure to listen and share with any friends or family members who may be struggling.

Voices & Views ~ The Sober Life & Alliance For Youth

Host Thomas Risberg is joined in the studio by Dean Snow from The Sober Life and Anjie Altschwager from Alliance For Youth to discuss the importance of building judgment-free recovery communities for people who struggle with addiction, and providing homeless and vulnerable youth with low-barrier access to basic necessities and wraparound supportive services. 

Anjie also highlighted Back 2 School Blast, which will take place on August 18th, from noon-4pm in Mansfield Room of the Great Falls Civic Center, and will provide students with free backpacks, school supplies, food and hygiene products and much more. Memorial Day Ceremony (5-29-2023)

Members of the Montana Veterans Memorial Association held the Memorial Day Ceremony on 2 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2023.

 

The ceremony began with the time-honored U.S. Navy tradition of ringing eight bells to honor the end of the watch of fallen comrades. Representatives of the Montana Chapter of the U.S. Veterans Motorcycle Club conducted the bell ringing. The Malmstrom Air Force Base Honor Guard presented the colors, and U.S. Air Force Chaplain (Capt.) Jeremy Jarvis provided the introductory invocation. U.S. Navy veteran and former television personality Art Taft served as master of ceremonies for the 18th annual Memorial Day Ceremony. Youth assigned to local Boy Scout troops lead the participants and audience in the "Pledge of Allegiance."

 

This year's keynote speaker was Kelly Ackerman, the head of the Montana Veterans Affairs Division of the Montana Department of Military Affairs. Ackerman has worked with the agency for 19 years and is a U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard veteran. Marvin Weatherwax will lead the Blackfeet Veterans Honor Guard in Blackfeet Warrior Honors. Longtime memorial supporter and participant Jesse Callender of the Great Falls Pipe Band performed his "Bagpipe Salute." Taryn Lodge, a senior at Belt High School, read the essay she entered in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy audio essay competition. Lodge's entry, "Why is the veteran important?" won first place in the Montana contest and continued on in the national competition. Members of the Great Falls Municipal Band performed the "Armed Forces Medley" and the Vocal Patriots returned to the memorial to sing the "Star Spangled Banner," and a medley of "America the Beautiful." Bishop Michael Warfel of the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings gave the benediction, and a student trumpet player from Great Falls High School ended the ceremony by sounding "Taps."
